Sunbursts

I planted sunflower and daisy seeds in February, hoping that something would happen come spring. As I have said before, I don’t have much of a green thumb when it comes to growing plants or caring for them. But this week, the seeds planted and carefully looked over yielded spectacular results, rewarding patience and care with lovely blooms unseen before in the yard.

These sunflowers are the first buds to open and face the sun. The photos don’t do justice to the colors and grace of each flower. I’m dazzled by the yellows, reds, and greens. The flowers make me smile and everyone who ventures in the backyard returns inside marvelling at the new plants swaying to this morning’s breeze. And at the foot of the sunflowers’s stalks, a yellow daisy braved its way up to the surface, unfurling her yellow petals — small and modest, though no less cheerful and pretty.

You can click on the images to see them as a slideshow.

Maybe I’m not so bad at growing things after all. Kinda makes me feel  a little like HGTV’s Jamie Durie.
